"The Age of Pleasure workshop series, designed and facilitated by Dr. Shawna Shipley-Gates, was a transformative and affirming three-part experience centering the sexual health and wellness of Black women and femmes. This powerful series created a much-needed space for education, empowerment, and community among participants. Dr. Shipley-Gates skillfully led sessions for G.E.M. S (Gifted Empowered Motivated Sisters) that explored the unique experiences and needs of Black women and femmes in relation to their sexual health and pleasure...

Student feedback following the series reflected the deep impact of these workshops. When surveyed, participants shared that the sessions were an enlightening experience that emphasized the importance of agency and self-advocacy. Many expressed how powerful it was to feel seen, heard, and understood in a space designed specifically for them. One student noted, 'It was a comfortable space to express my sexuality openly and meet new people.' Another shared, 'I appreciated the openness of the spaces and how welcoming it felt to be able to discuss sexual agency and autonomy.'

What set this series apart was its intentional focus on affirming the identities and lived experiences of Black women and femmes. Dr. Shipley-Gates fostered a welcoming and empowering environment that encouraged open dialogue and reflection. Participants walked away not only with vital knowledge but also with a renewed sense of self-worth, personal agency, and solidarity. Through The Age of Pleasure, students were able to reclaim narratives around their bodies and experiences, deepen their understanding of sexual wellness, and connect with others in meaningful and liberating ways. This series was a valuable contribution to campus wellness programming, and its impact will undoubtedly continue beyond the workshop space.

I would highly recommend Dr. Shipley-Gates for any programming focused on sexual wellness, identity, empowerment, and community-building. Her expertise, presence, and intentionality created an experience that was not only educational but also deeply healing."
